"Phishing" is an attempt by another person or web site to steal your account information, such as email address and password. Phishing scams are common on the internet and we strongly recommend you take precautions to protect your personal information.

Here are some suggestions to help avoid phishing scams:

1. If you are not sure whether an email message you receive is from hi5, do not click any links contained in the email. To reach the hi5 website for updates or messages, go to your web browser and enter www.hi5.com instead. You can use your web browser Favorites or Bookmarks, but please make sure you only bookmark http://www.hi5.com

2. Enter your email address and password only on pages that start with http://www.hi5.com Some phishing or spam sites "fake" the address, so please look carefully.

3. If you suspect an email you received is fake, report it to hi5. To report unwanted communications from spammers, please click the "This is Spam" link that appears next to new messages, friend requests, or comments. This will report the spam directly to our abuse team for investigation.

In addition to avoiding phishing scams, here are some other ways to protect your personal information:

1. Make sure you keep your password confidential and do not disclose it to anyone.

2. Don't use a password that your friends or family or a stranger can easily guess.

3. Be sure to click the "logout" link at the top right of any hi5 page every time you finish visiting the site. This is especially important if your used a shared or public computer.

4. Don't use the "Keep Me Logged In" option if you use a shared or public computer.

5. Don't include private personal information such as your home address or telephone number on your profile. Only share personal information with your friends and people you trust.

6. Use the Privacy Settings in your "Account" page to help control who can contact you and post comments on your hi5 profile and photos.

NOW..... Type in the address shown above (in a couple of places) into your browser address line at the top. Sure you could click on it but then you would be trusting me not to have the link take you to some site other than the one it looks like!!!!

When you get to their home page click on Help. Pick the abuse topic. Somewhere near the bottom will be a link to ask them for help.

Good luck.

You may want to print out the stuff above and staple it to your forehead.
